>Christianity is not a causative factor<
I think that Christianity, as a label, provides a wholesome shell behind which some Americans can organize a campaign of hate. (I think the burning cross comes in here - the KKK is implying it has the moral force of Christ behind it.) In Africa, Islam is abused the same way. And the folks who potted the Mahatma were engaged in armed struggle to preserve the purity of Hindu culture, or something.
It ain't the religion's fault.

White supremacy and Christianity.
Homosexuality and pederasty.
Gun ownership and violence.

These are all things which get distorted and mixed together when passion overrides reason.

Dear Penni,
There's a very big difference between listening with care and dissecting for a retaliatory attack.

Boy I have felt that allot on all threads. Even if I apologize there are some who gloat over it and others that just don't hear it and the searching for errors in what I say is discouraging at times. I mean I hold my feelings for it is not worth the retaliatory attitude and in your face stuff. We share on some very sensitive and difficult topics and that is a big part of the problem I think. I have never read anything in your posts that I disagreed with, Have a wonderful weekend, Nancy

Penni, I hope you do not think I was saying that Christianity is a causative factor in the militia movement, the KKK, the more generalized white supremacy movement, or homophobic organizations. I clearly said I was not. I am puzzled that they are organizations of comprised totally of Christians, however. I am not sure how one could be religious and still take such actions.

And I do not quite understand Alex's explanation, on one quick read, so if someone could explain this further I would appreciate it.

Nice to see your post, penni. I feel like I'm being understood. I'm not very good at expressing myself with clarity, but you have said it all very well here >They are as repulsed as any one else by these sociopaths. We need to not put the easy labels on these things. And this is what is upsetting to many Christians. They are as repulsed as any one else by these sociopaths. We need to not put the easy labels on these things. Christians and non-alike should have the same reaction to the KKK or the militia movement or discriminatory behavior toward anyone.

I don't know much about militias, and I've never known anyone to be in one, but if it makes some people feel important to march around a cornfield with guns, I don't feel threatened by that, and that itself doesn't offend me. As long as that's the extent of the activities, playing soldier, then I support their right. I think it is a paranoid behavior though.

And here, of course I agree, and have said as much before: >I doubt Dwight defends the shooting of a nurse at an abortion clinic. I think that would be an insult to imply that he does.
