Thanks for the vote of confidence Bobby, I'm working hard to maintain your trust.

Indonesia is truly a beautiful country. Like any developing nation they cannot provide all the services that more developed countries have, but the people here are so friendly and genuine. It is without a doubt one of the countries that has captured my heart.

I went shopping at Pasaraya (a major shopping mall in the Blok M District) yesterday. Compared to previous visits I would say that the consumer level was down at least 30%, but it was still busy.

We flew to Surabaya this morning (Sunday). Garuda, the Indonesian national airline cancelled two of its three scheduled flights (in traditional Garuda style!) to have a full flight. That tells me that their travel is down directly proportional to the devaluation of the currency.

Traveling by ground from Surabaya to Malang, I did not see any negative side to the monetary situation. It seems that in the smaller areas that people are simply "cutting the suit to fit the cloth" so to speak. One area was hit pretty hard by a flood last week (a problem which will be resolved with this project) but for the most part I see houses with fresh paint, small factories in operation and traffic jams that would do New York proud. "Sama Sama"

Selamat Jalan (Good bye) for now,

John
