jhild, for me this is a hypothetical question of who I would hire. I've never employed someone, and don't have any plans of doing so. I have turned away new clients for at least 2 years now, because I'm happy with where I'm at business wise. If I changed my mind and decided to hire someone, I would hire someone I have known and could trust, so that would probably be a relative, if possible. That's how I "reconcile" my thoughts on that. So it's simply not an issue, unless one of my relatives were gay, which none have indicated they are.

However, my brother for instance, will hire anyone who wants to work, and can show up on time. The labor is physically strenuous. He's hired people that have had struggles with drug use, for instance. He doesn't tolerate drug use on the job of course, and he would prefer they don't use drugs on their own time, and he encourages them to keep their life healthy and on track. He's hired Blacks, Mexicans, Russians, etc. Anyone with a social security number and a green card. I don't think that he has had anyone tell him they were gay, but as I know my brother, I believe that my brother would hire a gay, and I don't think he would want to fire someone simply because they were gay.
