Sheila: Here is something positive. European PC Vendors Adopt Iomega Zip Drive As Standard March 26, 1998: 1:59 p.m. ET GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (NB) -- By Steve Gold, Newsbytes. Iomega International has announced that three European PC vendors are adopting its Zip drive system for inclusion as a standard feature in their machines. Plans call for the three PC vendors -- Siemens Nixdorf International, Fujitsu, and Maxdata -- to integrate Zip drives as a standard PC component on their machines for shipment within the next few months. SNI will integrate the internal Zip drive into its entry-level Scenic Mobile 320 notebook computer, as well as the Scenic Mobile 710 high-end multimedia notebook computer. The company also has plans to include Zip for future products aimed at the high end corporate market in mid 1998. Fujitsu, meanwhile, plans to release a Zip PC series for the German small office, home office (SOHO) marketplace, which will be sold though end user catalogs. The company will also include Zip drives as a standard extra as part of its European build-to-order program. Over at Maxdata, meanwhile, the Zip drives will be included as standard in the company's soon to be launched Artist PC Office Zip Classic 200 megahertz (MHz) machine. Targeted at the business and professional customer, this new PC, part of Maxdata's Classic Line, will soon be available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Leslie Finn, Iomega International's OEM (original equipment manufacturer) sales director, said that the Zip drive is quickly becoming a "must-have" storage system for today's home and business PCs. "As file sizes increase due to Internet and multimedia applications, users are demanding ways to more easily store, transport, backup, and share files," he said. As reported last month by Newsbytes, Iomega struck a similar deal to this one with Hewlett-Packard, for the Zip drive system units to be included as standard in all of the high end HP Brio small business machines sold across the UK and Europe.
