Momentum plays on Wall street, is the market action. The brokers who do momentum plays generally wait in the morning Monday to see whether the market is going up or down, before commiting to their favourite stocks. Today, if they are involved with S&P500 stocks they can look at the futures before market opens and decide how their fortunes that week might be. Whether futures is the self fulfilling prophecy or because of their followings is immaterial. This type of investment is short term and may last a day or two, but not beyond 5 days.
