Windblown & Sunburn,
The Electric Vehicle Outlet is located 1/2 a block up the hill from the trolly turnaround. The first thing to catch my eye was a brightly dressed gentleman waving a "park here" sign,a good idea, parking income and Bike rentals.I was immediately approached by a salesmen who was not in the least taken aback when I changed the subject from buying a bike to,"is there a patent" the answer is yes on the release mechanism that allows the motor to freewheel when not being pedaled. He explained that most of their sales are zap units that are installed on pre owned bikes. O.K. off I go, from Fishermen's Wharf to Golden Gate Park was not fun, too much traffic not enough bike paths.I thought I would die, and was glad to have the motor.Power is not an issue as I thought it would be, you simply change the gears. In the Park it's flat and I didn't use the motor at all,and had a great day.I have to admit that I don't ride as much as I used to and the most difficult part was changing the gears and dealing with cars.I was told that the Electric Vehicle Outlet has been there for ten years, and looks like it will be at least another ten. I don't know anything about the financial or business end so I am not the one to answer any of those questions.I was most impressed by the genuine sincerity and helpfulness of the attendants at the Outlet, and the simple functions of ZAP!
I don't know if the kid will make a billion but at 18 I'm proud that he has made a start.
Lee Iacocca predicted "electric bikes would be the first EV to sell in the millions"'from ZAP NEWS.

Happy trails,
Mike Z
