The shareholder base of Ascend has always been very flakey and they will scurry at the first sign of weakness.

Let's review your post.

1) You say there's an "ever-present takeover expectation" in Ascend. (This is news?)

2) There's a gaggle of traders going in and out, both long and short. (Profound, indeed.)

3) The stock rise has no substance. (Even though it's going up on high volume against the market and against the sector).

4) Earnings won't be important to the stock.

And you're calling us flaky?????

I must be missing something.

Pat

Pardon me? Is BT nothing in your opinion? Is the UUNet business that is known within the industry gotten by ASND nothing? Is the repeated, but not believed by the shorts (short interest rises 15% in March - see earlier post), statement from management that this company is on track to meet earnings mean nothing? Is the VoIP announcements expected on Monday, and other product announcements coming next weeks, mean nothing?

How close to the fundamentals of this stock are you? Sorry, it is my biggest holding and as such my largest research project.

I seems you could benefit from an hour or two of reading at the "ASND News Only" thread.

IMHO, Dennis
