Agree 100% but need confidentiality agreements to answer questions. The only way we non-insiders have to get this info is to watch what the majors do.

I used to work for ARCO. Their research team (working on SLHO) consists of some of the best in the business - they can't talk to me anymore without killing me afterwards. I would assume that Texaco, Marathon, Exxon, Shell, Oxy and others are working on the very issues you brought up.

Therein lies the beauty of Texaco signing an agreement with RNTK after working for months with SLHO. The only reason I could see for them doing this is that they believe that RNTK has better economics overall and perhaps better catalyst life/cost etc.

Operating costs of Sasol,Shell are very high. Syntroleum's catalyst activity is not what it needs to be yet (high replacement cost because of volume,cobalt and frequency of replacement).

Syntroleum has published an operating cost estimate of $5.64/bbl of syncrude produced. But they have never built a plant!
