Sun's stock price could tank in the months ahead for the following reasons:

a) workstation business continues to suffer from Wintel competition, with superior price/performance characteristics

b) JavaStation is simply unable to get into the mainstream of Corporate customers' mindshare, as they look for Remote Access solutions for corporate-wide deployment. (Microsoft should have the beginnings of a credible alternative with Hydra when it is released in the next quarter, and Citrix pICAsso will provide superior add-on features for this product).

c) I've spent the last 2 hours on the 'Net trying to find if anything convincingly positive came out of JavaOne last week, and I am sorry to say, I was disappointed.

d) Java R&D spending must be a drain on earnings, if not certainly cash, and that can't be good for the stock price.

I went in recently at 44, and I'm seriouly disappointed that Sun did not enjoy more 'shine' from its JavaOne conference last week. Ms Conigliaro is one of the most respected analysts on WS, so her downgrade should be treated seriously.
