i can understand how people find it hard to receive lebowitz especially because her subtext is soooo inside track ny, blahblahbalh... but the ny of tom wolfe's bonfire ( don't even think about seeing the movie) would be the very thing she herself would be unable to receive....she is most definitely anti- in paradoxical high style. i did not like bonfire either, although the right stuff was one of the best reads i have ever had. and i did enjoy the kandy-kolored tangerine flake streamline baby, the pumphouse gang, and the electric kool-aid acid test. his writings on art are another story...
