Nancy, I don't understand where the helicopters come from, either. It is hard for me to imagine sheriffs lending their helicopters to the militia groups, but I am not saying it could not happen. Many of the people who participate in the militia movement are ex-military men. I do know that there is a lot of property stolen from the military, but it would be hard to smuggle out a helicopter in your back pocket. I believe they are available to purchase as surplus, but they would still be very expensive. I did find some more stuff on the web about the militia movement. There seems to be a lot of paranoia in their belief system. These are mostly rural residents without much education, people who feel threatened as our labor market changes and they cannot get good paying jobs which do not require college or intense technical training. Historically, the groups that are most threatened by blacks in America, for example, are the ones that compete economically with them for jobs. Uneducated, rural white people have a lot to be nervous about as they figure out how to survive in a different world. But that is absolutely no excuse for any of them to participate in hate crimes. pathfinder.com ucc.org I must say it is really surprising that the things Emile says seem to indicate he may be a racist. Certainly, I wonder if he understands that Jesus would have had dark skin.
