More interesting stuff: I don't read Texaco's post as claiming to own GTL technology. Their reference to applying new tech. to convert nat'l gas to diesel is a reference to their license and project with Syntroleum. Synt.'s and Exxons's cobalt catalyst appear superior (if they work!) for nat'l gas conversion. The fact that their cobalt catalyst needs sulfur free gas is not important since you need to remove the sulfur from the nat'l gas before you make syn. gas in the auto thermal reformer that most GTL projects will use, including Rentech, if they chose to run on nat'l gas. Texaco goes on to say it will replace the "environmentally less friendly coal", which is obviously a negative commnet on the burning of coal for energy. I don't have any confidential information on Rentech, but I've heard they claim to be able to approach coblat's nat'l gas conversion efficiency by recycle. The question is at what cost. Hopefully cheap! Rentech's process has great synergy with Texaco's gasification technology, but the paragraph doesn't say that Texaco owns the process for making chemicals or fuels, just that their gasifier's syngas can be used to make them. Putting this aside us, I'm please to see others commenting that the agreement is complete and in the lawyers hands. I also have heard this from a reliable source. Texaco will use this to compete with Shell and Lurgi for gasification projects (Shell has a relationship with Texaco for refining, but they compete in the licensing area, which is completely separate). I also believe we are looking at a relationship which is more than a license. Texaco can use this relationship to jump into the technology from an R&D standpoint. Since Rentech badly needs a partner, I would imagine that Texaco can get a better deal than they have with Syntroleum and will take it as far as they can go, since they will also stand to make more money. I'm putting all my risk money (and then some)into this stock. Please use your own judgement, this is only my opinion. Here's hoping for an up week. Good luck to all
