Mel,

Great post! When Kim edwards came on board, I am pretty sure the zip was on the drawing board. They followed up with the Jaz drive which was delayed for a very long time after its original stated arrival date. At this point, the company should have been sold to a disk drive maker. To expect Iomega to follow up the Zip drive with a winner was asking too much. R&D has wasted millions. I hate to say this, but n-hand was reincarnated as Clik because it had failed to get support or they could not get it out of the gate early enough to grab a nitch. N-hand - Clik is why Edwards is gone and is why this company is shot. It was a flawed concept that's only shot was if they got it out 1.5 years ago and had a caddy making it Zip compatible. If someone would buy them out tomorrow, which is highly unlikely due to some of their unethical dealings in the past, ie: offering at $35 when the stock was trading in the 40's, they would drop Clik like a bad habit. Iomega is Zip drive. The Jaz sales will slip due to competition. It is old technology. If Sony ever comes out with a drive that is priced right, and I tend to doubt it, Iomega will be cooked. If I were a member of the B.O.D., I would push to put the company up for sale now!

Regards,

Ira

"Each Qtr. the rate of OEM penetration by the Zip goes up. I would not be surprised to see this trend continue for at least the rest of this year."

Mel,

Thanks for your outstanding post. It seems to me though, that the economics of the $1k pc market has dried up a lot of oem zip inclusion. Micron Electronics is a good example of the effect that lower priced pc's have had on oem zip drive sku's.
