Agree Elk "so DGIV is there first and if they only have one competitor who could come into the market quickly, assuming that other entrants would have to apply for specific lisences, then we have a 50%-50% chance of capturing a bulk of the IT market in Indoesia, I like those odds." Agree - "Russia is a much more open market and if the competition has yet to announce plans, you can bet they will soon. Thats fine with me as there is no need to capture a bulk of the marketshare in Russia. It is a rich enough market that just caprturing a piece can mean revenues that are substanial for DGIV, relative to our current size and earnings". Agree again - "And to me that is the key, DGIV does not need to dominate any of these markets to see a solid growth in earnings, in the next year. They only need to make a presence felt, IMO." The only one possibly "out there" at the moment is a possible Lucent/PT Telkom type thing...but from what I see - they aren't doing anything in VoIP at the moment..(thus - DGIV will have a monopoly on low cost long distance service in Indonesia for the foreseeable future) Only the following.. Mar 24 '98 - The state telecommunications company PT Telkom and the US-based Lucent Technologies on Tuesday here announced the introduction of a nationwide Signaling Transfer Point (STP) network in the country using Lucent's equipment. Under an agreement, which is an extension of an existing contract with PT Telkom, Lucent will provide four national and four regional STP switching centers for PT Telkom's networks in Sumatra and Java. The project will support PT Telkom's plan to expand and modernize its telecommunications network to meet world-class standard.

Hi Elk, Hi Gary: Elk, Very nice list. Perhaps we could ask Jill, the Webmistress, how best to put this list at the top of the thread to help newcomers orient themselves? It might put to rest basic questions (FAQs) in the progress of the thread. Hi Gary, I'm a new-comer to this thread. I'm sorry if some comments by other(s) have put you off. Most of us are aware that the internet is a great flattener: anyone can say anything to anyone about whatever in any conceivable manner they wish. On the information superhighway "road rage" does occur. Ph.D.'s, engineers, programmers, scam artists, all are on SI and evidently, according to Rick, so is "Joe." And apparently, all of them have something to say. My point: If you have something you think is important to say, I'd like to hear it on SI, and (to mix my metaphors) I'm sorry if someone elbowed you under the basket. It sometimes happens here. All IMHO and in the spirit of let's get along to get somewhere. BTW, someone asked about shorts, I don't think there can be any shorts out there other than MMs because it's a bulletin board stock. Am I right in this? Ed
