Ian: I believe you - provided the apps you're running include uninstallers, anti-virus, drive utilities, and full Windows re-installation.

No at all. Even if we are to assume that all installations are disasters you still come out with a 99% to 1% figure.

You see, I install a new application/hardware every three months on the average. Let us assume that every single time the installation goes awry and that I end up spending the entire day changing IRQs, reinstalling Windows or calling tech support.

Since I use my computer seven days a week. This means that out of every 100 days I spend using it, in the worst case one day installing software/hardware and fidling with the OS.

Yes he was. I pointed out at the time that 78% of all statistics are made up.
