Kansas George with his wife may qualify as being in the trading business depending on the frequency and number of trades, holding periods and other factors mentioned in our prior posts.

I you would like a detailed list of questions to help you establish whether or not you qualify for the trader tax benefits (and if qualifying will produce tax savings for you), ask for the list when you order our tax guide. We will email the list of questions when we email the guide to you. After we receive your payment and answers to our questions, we will send you an email reply of our initial determination.

When you order our tax guide, state that you would like a list of questions to answer to see if you are a trader.

To order our entire 31-page trader tax guide Edition 5 for same day email delivery, simply email your order to rgreen@greencompany.com After your email receipt of the guide and list of questions, please mail us a check for $75 payable to Green & Company Inc. at 415 East 37th St, 39th floor, New York, NY 10016. The charge for the guide alone is $25, the charge for our list of questions and our response is $75 (because it will take our time to give you an answer for your specific situation). To insure that you get a timely answer before April 15th, send you check as soon as you decide you want our service.

There is tons of free tax information for Traders and Investors at our Web site at greencompany.com Good luck with your tax returns.

George, The filing of any sole proprietorship forms has little if anything to do with qualifying for Trader Status. It is the SUBSTANCE of your wife's business, and not the FORMS she files that determines if she is a Trader.
.
If she DOES qualify as a TRADER, then yes it is reported on your JOINT form 1040 return.
