<< When buying a Geo Metro, I don't expect a Corvette performance. The same is true with going with a discount broker. Complain all you want. Everybody seems to be doing it. I'm just trying to say that if you want to be a "trader" than Waterhouse or any other discount broker is not the service you want. >>

We are in the early days of online brokers...each one has its problems. It will NOT be this way forever and there is no excuse for bad performance. Slow performance doesn't save money...that's ridiculous. It costs the broker money because the trade must be handled by an (expensive) human. These things will be solved in time and we'll be astonished we ever put up with it.

Eddie,

I am not a day trader, only trade say 4 times a month.
I like Waterhouse service, especially the low margin requirement
for options plays ($250 per contract versus $1000 at
Fido, $250 per CallSpread versus $10K initial req from
Fido).
However, I can't stand the slowness of the supposedly
new and improved WebBroker. Gimme back the plain
but fast graphics of WebBroker5&6.
And yes, I have missed windows of opportunities for
trades that cost me thousands of $$ due to being hold
in "pending" state.
(Last Dec, on expiration day,
the Jan CREAF 20 put was priced at $2 7/8 when I
attempted to sell it. By the time the order was accepted
some 15 minutes later, the price was reduced to $2,
which for a 20 contract order is worth $1750 less.)
But you are right, we get what we are paying for, and
over all, I am still a happy customer.
