"To provide 15 years of service, Anik F will use a xenon ion propulsion system (XIPS) for all on-orbit maneuvering."

Interesting. Has Loral ever built a sat using ion propulsion? I'd heard that this had only been successfully done with one sat before. But I belive it will be a key technology soon. The theory for this type of propulsion has been sound and understood for decades, but satellite makers seem quite the conservative bunch, I'm surprised Hughes is deploying such a big one with it so soon.

In other words, does this represent a competitive advantage over SS/Loral?
