Eric,

That was what I just requested myself. I didn't see your note. I would like to be able to update more than one page, each of a different specified name, not the front page. This is so exciting! I feel like we're back in the early times.

Linda

Eric and all,

Since the subject has been tweaking our systems for investing, I thought I'd throw this in. For the last few days, I've been using a utility called OneClick. It's a scriptable (AppleScript compatible) macro maker, that also sports a macro recorder. The revolutionary part is that the scripts/macros run from a custom button palette interface. The button palettes can be either global (showing all the time) or application specific (showing only when the related application is running) or hidden (when you don't want them taking up space).
It's difficult to explain how powerful this is without writing pages, but I will say that anyone that has done ANY programming can pick up the scripting fast, and it is the scripting that unleashes the greatest power. That's not to say, however, that non-programmers wouldn't find it very useful. The Macro Recorder would allow you to do a lot of cool things, and it's easy.
It caught my attention because Steve Wozniak and Guy Kawasaki both said it was one of the most useful programs they had ever found. I agree. MacUser gave it 5 mice.
If you can script, there's almost nothing you can't do by simply clicking one button.

Oh, and I forgot to mention....it's Mac only software.

Here's the MacUser review:

zdnet.com

Here's where you can buy it direct off the Web for $49:

westcodesoft.com

That takes care of my biannual, off topic post. Hope it doesn't piss anybody off.

Scott

Hi Eric, Linda, Scott and all,
My Applescript... well, maybe a little background. I'm not really familar with AppleScript. I just took someone else's code (John Rethorst: April Fools' Scripts: available at versiontracker.com: an evidently very adept scripter: jcr2@cornell.edu) and changed it to reload a browser window instead of some Fool-ish repeater. So... your requests for changes are falling on 'dumb' ears. There are little experiments we could try, like making duplicate copies of the script to work different windows (I doubt this would work). Or adding some script code to ask the user for a URL (probably easy, but how to pass to the browser?). Or just Quitting the script temporarily while in an active window (I know that works!). It may be that for those who need to be refreshing a few browser windows simultaneously, using custom-URL-coded HTML files like AAPLtracker is the quickest (if not elegant) solution. This tactic works on background windows.
OTOH, as Scott points out, OneClick may be the answer ('cep it costs!). I have and use OneClick myself, and it's great right out of the box, very shallow learning curve), but I have not taken the time to learn its powerful scripting environment.
Anyway, unless someone helps *me*, I won't be able to contribute more on this script.
