I just spent the day beginning under the blazing East Java sun visiting various water monitoring stations in the Malang District, to end in a heavy deluge this afternoon. Yesterday afternoon was the same here as well.

From what I can see, this part of Indonesia is not effected the way you have been in Malaysia, however I understand Kalamantan is a different story. We have not been involved in fresh water and sewage in Indonesia or Malaysia. We lobbied with Indah Water in Malaysia for two years, but the British partners were determined to see British equipment (no matter how obsolete) used rather than our's or anyone else's for that matter.

On the economy side here, this is my first visit to Malang, and I think I could best describe parts of it as "The Beverly Hills of Indonesia". I am quite impressed with the cleanliness of the city and area. The economy does not appear to have had the negative impact that I saw in Jakarta. For the most part, I suspect their trade, except for the tourist portion, is mostly local, and 10,000 Rupiah is still worth 10,000 Rupiah.

Regards,

John

We received further information yesterday, Stitch, and discovered that one of the two projects that we have been asked to bid on in Malaysia is in fact for Water Supply! I don't know what is happening here, but maybe someone has fallen out of favour!

Regards,
