Colin, I'm late in this response (catching up on the thread) but you have made many cogent observations in one moderate message. We did indeed have a near flat tax (screwed up by blips but nevertheless close). For a few months there I was naive enough to believe it. No more. Only constitutional restrictions would rein in the idiots in Congress, and you can flip a coin for the party -- whether it's the cretins or the cravens doesn't seem to matter on the bottom line. I appreciate your refreshing point of view, especially considering your profession. Of course that's what an ethical member of your profession should do. It's a shame that it's refreshing, isn't it.
