Article...Australian TV Jumps Gun On Intel Venture

March 27, 1998

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, Newsbytes : Television station Channel Seven sprang a surprise on IntelAustralia [NASDAQ:INTC] yesterday, jumping the gun on announcement of a joint venture to deliver TV programs on personal computers using Intel's Intercast technology.

"We are not ready to make any announcements at this time . . . we're still in the testing stages," said Kate Burleigh, Intel spokesperson. But Seven's corporate office was not so reticent. Apparently reacting to last week's flood of publicity for the Nine-MSN venture, between Kerry Packer's PBL Online and Microsoft, it had already issued a press statement announcing plans for Seven Online - including a joint venture with the chipmaker, and coincidentally, taking the credit for its Intercast technology.

"In a joint venture with Intel, Seven has developed Intercast which is delivering broadcast television and a range of major Web sites to personal computers," said a press release.

In the US, Intel Intercast content is mostly delivered by cable TV vendors. It offers enhanced TV information, delivered as part of the TV signal but viewed on a PC.

Apart from the Intel venture, Seven said it was negotiating with a number of "major companies" to develop joint ventures in electronic commerce, banking travel, stockbroking and retail sectors.

Barry. Re: 700 people.

You were close but I was referring to 700 people making the trip to Africa . I guess our President did not realize that the crowds would be fairly large so he took his own. I wonder if 700 people will scare the animals off on Safari.

I thought only 300 people and 3 planes went to Africa but then I heard 700 today. So I guess 1 news report was wrong but even 300 is nothing to sneeze at. gg.

Good night
