Significance of today's announcements:

IMO, Voice over IP will be aggressively pursued by 1) ISP's and 2) ISP's posing as CLEC's (competitive local exchange carriers).
In other words the equipment providers which already have installed base in these two camps will do very well.

This fact bodes very well for ASND.

The keyword here is installed base. Note the following comment in the press release:
'ASND is uniquely positioned to deliver a voice over data solution because the company's product line extends from the customer premise to the Central Office (CO) and points of presence (POP's). '

Integrating the functionality into the Remote access servers and WAN switches allows for less hassles with the RBOC's. It makes the most efficient use of the very valuable real estate in the telco central office cage.

Furthermore, the press release indicates that some of these voice over IP solutions are software solutions . That is great because software solutions usually spell higher margins!

ASND will be a very important player in this niche. The PSTN (public switched telephone network) as we know it is now about to undergo a facelift (subperiostal one for those of you with anatomy background). The acquisition of Cascade last year was brillant.Of course the first year _has_ been painful but those investors who have been patient will now begin to eat the fruits of the IP telephony revolution.
