IDT Introduces Industry's Fastest 4-Mbit Synchronous ZBT SRAM ZBT Founder IDT Offers 8 ns Flow-Through Device for Networking Applications SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 1998--Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT), the pioneer of Zero Bus Turnaround(TM) (ZBT(TM)) architecture, today introduced the industry's fastest 4-Mbit flow-through synchronous ZBT SRAM. The 4-Mbit product, also available in a pipelined version, provides higher levels of performance and density for communications-switching and networking products. ''IDT developed ZBT to meet the broad customer demand for an SRAM architecture that enables higher bandwidth,'' said Steve Eliscu, IDT's director of strategic SRAM marketing. ''Along with partners Micron and Motorola, IDT is leading the effort to standardize this architecture that provides users with 100 percent bus utilization. The new 4-Mbit part is an example of IDT's commitment to expanding the ZBT product family.'' The new IDT71V546 (pipelined version) and IDT71V547 (flow-through version) are 3.3-volt ZBT SRAMs with 128K x 36 configurations. The 71V547 is the fastest flow-through device available, operating at 100 MHz with an 8 ns clock-to-data access time. The 71V546 pipelined device operates at 133 MHz with a 4.2 ns clock-to-data access rate. ''High-performance switching applications have faster data rates and more demand for information buffering. Therefore, these applications need higher bandwidth per pin as well as balanced and mixed access between read-and-write cycles,'' said Vipin Patel, SRAM memory senior engineer, IBM Global Procurement. ''ZBT provides an ideal solution to meet these needs by running at speeds as high as 133 MHz and providing up to 2.4 Gigabits of bandwidth, even when alternating between reads and writes on every cycle.'' ZBT Revolutionizes SRAM Market ZBT SRAMs are ideal for performance-driven networking products, such as switches and routers, that require memories with both high bandwidth and the capability of intermixing read-and-write operations in any combination. In addition, all critical timing parameters for ZBT SRAMs are referenced to the rising edge of the synchronous clock, which simplifies the design of high-bandwidth switching systems. Designers previously used synchronous-burst SRAMs that require additional cycles to turn around the bus reads and writes, increasing the time required for each bus transaction. The ZBT architecture outperforms conventional synchronous-burst SRAMs by eliminating the dead cycles, giving systems high performance and increased bandwidth utilization. SRAM Product Offerings IDT is a broad-line, volume supplier of industry-standard SRAMs, as well as a leading innovator of application- and market-specific SRAMs. IDT offers a complete line of synchronous and asynchronous SRAM products ranging in density from 16K to 4 Mbits that are primarily used in high-speed, high-performance networking and telecommunications markets. Pricing and Availability The 133-MHz IDT71V546 pipelined and 100-MHz IDT71V547 flow-through ZBT SRAMs are currently sampling in 100-pin thin quad flat packages (TQFP) with production quantities available in Q2CY98. The 71V546 will be available for $42.90 in 1,000-piece quantities, and the 71V547 will be available for $50.60 in 1,000-piece quantities. IDT's future product plans include larger densities and configurations as well as performance enhancements. About IDT Integrated Device Technology, Inc.
