Not good for Ciena, does not appear to help Fibr either as it states MCI/WORLDCOM will likely turn to Nortel for their products

Maybe Nortel is Osicom's mystery partner for the GigaMux.

<< Check out smartmoney.com today!! Article on Ciena and their troubles with entering the local market. Not good for Ciena, does not appear to help Fibr either as it states MCI/WORLDCOM will likely turn to Nortel for their products. Very interesting article. Tom B.>>

Actually, i believe they are talking about the long haul market at this point in the article(Nortel doesn't have short haul, that i know of)...they seemed to have switched gears. The real gist of the article is not about the short-haul market, but rather the different problems Ciena is facing in when it comes to sustained growth.

"Nortel, another competitor, has already won contracts from
MCI (MCIC) for a competitive product, and if WorldCom
acquires MCI's network, it may well acquire Nortel as a
supplier, which could spell trouble for Ciena."
