Yes. I visited them as well. I haven't personally used TUXEDO and
know little about ICEBERG. Transaction Processing Monitors are
big in some circles and usually fetch big bucks because they require
architectural commitment.

JBuilder does not fall in that category. However, I feel that
Enterprise Java Beans will be a very big hit. So the EJB standards
relating to transaction processing in this environment will be big
as well. Borland will be well served if it creates a Enterprise level
product in this area.

I cannot explain IONA's climb. CORBA's increasing popularity may be
fueling the stock. But in a few years that market will essentially
disappear (since it will only remain in an embedded form in other
products). IONA is not a competitor of Borland, although IONA could
be severely hurt by actions of Borland in the future.

IONA is a competitor of Borland because the latter acquired
Visigenics. If Borland considers BEA as a rival, then hopefully we
will see some competitive products.

Not showing up at CORBA panel could be a public relation problem.
Product-vise, visigenics should have no problem. However, this was
a good opportunity to become more visible. Hopefully they will use
more of the free publicity and opportunities in the future.

I was at the JavaOne Corba session and Iona said very little in that session of any interest. I was supprised that VisBroker was not represented in the panel as it was a good opportunity for Borland.

BEA were not at JavaOne. I think one of their strengths is that they have some very strong Customer success stories that they promote very well. That did not happen overnight.
