NEWS:Ciprico Expands Fibre Channel Product Offerings With New Disk Array

Addition of FibreSTORE to Ciprico Product Line Delivers Increased Flexibility in Choosing Storage Solutions for Visual Computing

MINNEAPOLIS, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Ciprico Inc. (Nasdaq: CPCI - news), the leader in high-bandwidth RAID storage, is expanding its Fibre Channel product offering with the introduction of the FibreSTORE disk array, a JBOD disk array leveraging Ciprico's second generation Fibre Channel technology. FibreSTORE is ideal for visual computing applications that demand high bandwidth but do not require RAID level features. It offers the speed, reliability and availability needed for applications in high-bandwidth applications, such as those in film and video production, broadcasting, satellite telemetry and interpretation of acquired seismic data.

''With the addition of FibreSTORE to Ciprico's family of Fibre Channel products, Ciprico continues to strengthen its leadership position in the Fibre Channel arena,'' said Inese Lanka, marketing manager at Ciprico. ''FibreSTORE also demonstrates our commitment to delivering advanced storage technology with varying levels of functionality, providing our customers flexibility when investing in our solutions.''

Bandwidth, Availability and Management

Designed with high-bandwidth in mind, FibreSTORE's performance approaches the limits of the full-speed Fibre Channel interface. The package utilizes the most advanced Fibre Channel drives available in the market today -- achieving unprecedented data transfer rates. Over 95% of the Fibre Channel's interface bandwidth is attainable on a single loop configuration with a nine drive FibreSTORE configuration.

FibreSTORE implements dual Fibre Channel -- Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) technology, allowing two loop configurations within a single enclosure for enhanced methods of storage availability and management. Multiple loops within a single enclosure improve overall performance and provide flexibility in configuration choices. FibreSTORE handles any combination of four to nine disk drives in a single enclosure.

Each FibreSTORE bundle supports up to 162GB of on-line storage. Ciprico's built-in daisy-chaining capabilities provide a ''user friendly'' method of adding capacity -- a necessity in today's data centers experiencing explosive storage growth.

Advanced management tools reduce routine maintenance time, thereby increasing overall system uptime. Key components are easily accessible and are field-replaceable. Ciprico's unique enclosure status guarantees swift problem diagnosis and reporting through the front panel LCD diskplay and conveniently back to the designated host system via the Fibre Channel interface.

Pricing and Availability

FibreSTORE will be available early third quarter of 1998. List pricing
depends on the configuration.
