Masao Miyamotos description sounds like a Kafkas hell.

If its true, one solution to Japans problems could be to make all japanese take at least 6 weeks of forced vacation every year.

And not to work unpaid overtime.

They would then consume and travel more, and the powers who
made them work overtime would only let them do so
if it was an economic benefit.

I think there is an economic law about free goods. Wether its
fish, grass or free overtime. It gets overexploited,
and not used in the most efficient way.

PS. I have almost no real experience with Japan, and cannot therefore
judge if Miamoto is on the mark.
