Addonics to Ship 13-Ounce PocketZIP with Iomega Drive

Market's Smallest Zip Drive is Battery Powered Through PCMCIA Port

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 1998--Addonics Technologies today announced the PocketZIP drive -- a 7 x 4-inch, 13-ounce Zip drive that doesn't require an external power source.

Addonics' new portable 100MB Zip drive can be powered by the notebook's battery through the PCMCIA interface, or through the included external power adapter. Whereas standard Zip drives require an external power source, the PocketZIP can be used anywhere.

The PocketZIP incorporates Iomega's (NYSE:IOM - news) slim Zip drive mechanism with Addonics' case, software, PCMCIA interface, power adapter, Zip disk, Zip tools, and voice recording software that records up to 10 hours of audio (voice/music) data on one Zip cartridge.

List price is expected to be $299 ($249 street). It will be available through major computer superstores, mass merchants, catalog companies, resellers, VARs and distributors, including CompUSA, Fry's Electronics, Computer City, and MicroCenter.

Addonics, which had 1997 sales over $350 million, has a complete line of communications, storage, and multimedia solutions. Addonics has combined Iomega's new slim Zip drive into the PocketZIP, proving its ability to make very small and lightweight external peripherals.

The PocketZIP measures 7 x 4.4 x .9 inches and weighs 13 ounces. Average access time is 29 milliseconds with a maximum data transfer rate of 1.4 MBs per second, or 1.2 MBs with automatic read-only error correction. The PocketZIP is compatible with all Zip disks.

The PocketZIP supports DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT. System requirements are a PC/AT compatible system; PCMCIA type I or Type II slot; a 386 or 486 Pentium or greater, and a minimum 640K RAM.

Addonics is a member of the multi-billion dollar ACER Group. Addonics designs, manufactures, and markets a broad line of external and portable products that connect to any desktop or notebook personal computer through the printer port and PCMCIA interfaces, such as CD-ROM drives, Optical Storage devices and external hard drives.

The company also has a broad line of communications products and multimedia audio and graphics solutions. Addonics is headquartered at 48434 Milmont Drive, Fremont, CA 94538.
