Jeff, window dressing is not fiction it is fact and we have to live with it. Wether or not JBIL is a victim of this remains to be seen, however, many friends of mine are portfolio managers and they are participants in this seasonal phenomenon.

Ask yourself this "If you were a portfolio manager and had only stocks that had reported or indicated dismal earnings this upcoming quarter in your quarterly report, how smart would you look to your prospective investors?" Once the EOQ is over they can load up on these stocks and nobody knows they own them unitl the end of next quarter, at which time the earnings are behind them and the good news has started coming out.

No offense intended, PP

IKE --

Here is a little bit of an accountant's look at the market (and SPX) for the next few weeks:

Well tomorrow is, as you know, the end of a quarter. Can't be showing no losers in the portfolio ... so dump them here (mostly already done). Just as I hold onto cash at the end of a quarter for window-dressing ... these fund managers dump the losers to show only good stuff at the end of a quarter (reporting time). Pick them up again after 3/31 (or after 30 days if you are worried about the "wash sales" rule).

And then we lead up to tax advice ... IRA time has been going on for a little while, but now must escalate, as you got until 4/15/98 to get the dough in. Money flow will increase.

And now to paying uncle Sam ... Money flow will start running out not only to pay taxes from 1997, but to also pay estimated taxes for 1998. We will have those on extension paying a healthy chunk more than they need to, to preserve their accountants clean record in the malpractice area (Tim will get this one). So strictly from an accountant's view:

Bad sectors stagnate to lower through 3/31/98 with a return even as early as starting 4/1. (Any comment on a rather healthier return for late April due to Wash Sales?)

Money flows into the market at a healthy pace through 4/10, with 4/10 being a key date for the escalation of tax payment money exiting the market. How much? Who knows?

Pesonally, I am looking for a big down tomorrow and dumping the SPX April 1080 puts I bought for hopefully 50% To a double. I am looking to buy them back around the 9th or 10th for a very quick profit through 4/15. Now if you follow an accountant's look at the market, then you're probably even more washed up than me <ggg>!!

TIM ... You can't let this note go without a comment!!!
