NEWS snips from Offshore Data

Teddy's note: As we all know, oil prices declined dramaticly today because no one really believes that OPEC and friends can do anything to stop the price of oil from falling to the single digits (or even lower). As you can see, it has had a major impact on E&P plans today:

U.S.: Jackup PRIDE WYOMING's contract with Murphy E&P will be extended for three months. The rig is now under contract to mid-August.

U.S.: Triton has awarded a one-year contract to jackup PRIDE NEW MEXICO starting in early July. The rig is contracted through June with Burlington Resources.

U.S. GULF: Jackup NOBLE CARL NORBERG is due to arrive at TDI-Halter's yard in Sabine Pass, Texas shortly. The rig will undergo a four to six week refurbishment and upgrade program. The rig is being bid internationally and is expected to leave the U.S. Gulf after work is completed.

U.S. GULF: Jackup MARINE 303 is moving to location in Matagorda Island Block 721 for a turnkey well with Enron Oil and Gas. The rig, which has been idle, is under contract with ADTI to late May.

INDONESIA: Calgary-based Carmanah Resources expects a significant well to be drilled in 1998 in its Northeast Natuna production-sharing contract area offshore Indonesia. The well will be drilled in conjunction with Esso, pursuant to a farm-out agreement completed in 1997. Under terms of the agreement, Esso committed to a $25 million work program over two years to earn a minority interest in the PSC. Semi SEDCO 600 will drill the Northeast Natuna well in the second quarter.

Separately, Carmanah contracted jackup PRIDE PENNSYLVANIA for a four-well program in its Camar field offshore Indonesia. Carmanah also will install a monopod platform and gathering lines in preparation to bring the new wells on stream this year.

INDIA: Jackup TRANSOCEAN JUPITER began its four-well contract with Hardy O&G offshore India. Work is expected to last into October.
