Re: "a crummy first quarter earnings report (which we have been warned about)" => Must have missed this. Where were we warned? Thanks.

jeffrey a crummy report is unexpected expense, inventory write offs, backlog disappears, etc. Not a revenue fluctuation. A crummy report is like the NBA game of the week on Saturday (where Cleveland got the lowest total in NBA history). We haven't been warned of a crummy report, but sequential revenue increases are unlikely, and probably not large if at all. No warning yet of significant revenue drop. Stock is consolidating. Maybe another big drop in price but in that case you'll have time to think about buying more.

Jeffrey: The estimates were lowered for the quarter. There was no warning of "crummy" earnings. There was a downward estimate and therefore it is easier to beat. More will be spent on support and research. Your post is misleading if someone was to read it without knowledge of the lowered earnings estimates. This was accepted by the analysts and works in the investors favor. Providing there is not a severe correction by earnings everything will be just great.

Jeff, bet you didn't bet on research and development coming on line so quickly with a new laser that has already shipped in this quarter and has significant orders for 1998. There goes your hunch.
