Alex, Glad to hear you had a good vacation! You are right, I've been saying that I need a vacation for months now! [I'll let you know when I go... usually my stocks go UP when I'M away! ;) ] Anyhow, from Next Generation: AMI's Top 15 Videogame Maker In a recent report, New York based industry analyst firm Access Media International has ranked the top videogame software companies. March 30, 1998 With revenues upwards of $848 million during 1997, Electronic Arts topped all other videogame makers last year. EA barely stayed ahead of both Nintendo and Sony (whose revenues jumped a staggering 400 percent over the year before) in videogame software dollars. Finishing up the top five were GT Interactive and Cendant thanks to recent acquisitions of smaller videogame makers. This consolidation was one of the biggest factors of 1997 as more than a dozen videogame development houses were absorbed by larger companies. AMI analyst Walter Miao said about the trend, "The entry point for a supplier is moving steadily up; it may be at around $250 million in revenue this year. "Large retailers want a collection of titles from any new company they consider taking on, publishers that can give them a steady flow of new products spaced out through the year." Miao also points to strong distribution as the key to success for videogame companies. "If you can't get your products on the shelves, it doesn't matter if you have good titles."
