RESEARCH ALERT-View on Pfizer's Viagra rises

CHICAGO, March 30 (Reuters) - NationsBanc Montgomery Securities drug industry
analyst
Leonard Yaffe said Monday he plans to raise his 1998 sales estimate for Viagra, a new
impotency
drug from Pfizer Inc., to $400 million from $275 million.

Shares in New York-based Pfizer were up 1-3/4 to 97-1/8 in midday New York
Stock Exchange
trading.

Viagra was approved for U.S. marketing on Friday, setting up a mid-April U.S. market
launch,
earlier than Yaffe said he had expected.

For 1999, Yaffe said he estimates Viagra sales of $800 million. ''We think this could be
the first
$6-billion drug,'' he said.
