The DVD-ROM version requires Windows 95, a DVD-ROM drive (1x or faster) and a hardware MPEG2 decoder card (typically sold with the DVD-ROM drives in upgrade kits) or a software MPEG2 decoder (requires powerful machines to work respectably).

Dragon's Lair DVD-ROM has been tested with most MPEG2 cards (the cards found in the upgrade kits that play back the DVD video in MPEG2 format) and is functional with all the cards that we know of. Some of the cards tested are:

-Creative Labs Encore
-Diamond Maximum DVD (version 2000 and 2500)
-Cinemaster I & II
-Sigma Designs Hollywood
-Chromatic Research MPACT v1.6 and 2.0, and MPACT II
-Zoran SoftPeg2
-Mediamatics DVD Express

There are a number of upgrade kits available but most of them will include an MPEG2 card from one of the above manufacturers.
