Pat, the $200 ADSL modem is a very attainable goal. After all, the chip guys are in control of their own destiny on this.

Unfortunately, TI, or MSFT, CPQ and the other guy I forgot, just have no control over deployment by the telcos, and more importantly pricing. I just don't see $50 per month 8mb DSL any time soon. Now DSL lite might (not a very likely might) be able get under the $50 barrier. I've seen this played out any anywhere from 128Kb to 1Mb. If we could get say 500Kb (10x todays best rate for most of us) for $50, this could drive the next networking explosion. Then from there, another 10x to 5Mbs might be reasonable. Realistic time frame, at least 5 years.
