The great fallacy of the GSTRF hype is this "who needs antarctica" position. The reality is that until they build 200 base stations, they will not have a global network. They are only planning 30 right now. (And if they are going to build more, I sure can't find it in their website or annual reports)

It doesn't matter if there's a satellite overhead if you can't get to a groundstation, you cannot make a call.

Also, the NY Times is saying they believe the costs will be comparable to Iridium: $3.63/min for I* and $3.37 + retailer profit for G*... so the local dealers will have to tack on less than $0.26 a minute for G* to cost less than I* and the difference isn't as staggering has we've been led to believe it would be. (If NYT is right, but they are a pretty credible source!)

Not to bash, just to warn. Love my Loral and think both I* and G* will be successful.
