It's strange that as Windows 98 is about to hit the streets, all the talk from Microsoft is about NT. Even for the home. Even with NT5 still slipping indefinitely. Even though Windows 98 is supposed to be a relatively minor upgrade, with mostly better performance and reliability. Makes even a Microskeptic like me scratch my head. What's going on? Has Microsoft totally given up on the old Windows?

Personally, I've gone back to NT for my net machine, though I still run Windows95 for the kid's stuff on the other machine. Seems to be doing ok there. NTW is more reliable, but it's also a pig, it seems cramped in 32 meg. If Wndows95 worked reliably, I'd be happy to run it as I don't really need multiuser stuff at home, and I could use a smaller memory footprint.

Cheers, Dan.

P.S. A good word for a Microsoft product. My kids really like Microsoft Dogs. Though it strangely and randomly hangs on video startup after a while, a problem that's cleared by rebooting or worked around by bringing up the taskbar. Odd, but not unusual, given the integrity and uniformity thing. . .

<Of course, if Microsoft was 100% Java compliant a person might generate apps on a Mac or BeOS machine and not worry about where they end up running.>
