Maybe Bell Atlantic is hedging its bets. The Ciena announcement seemed to be much more definite and detailed. The LU announcement included some SONET equipment and vaig references to DWDM. CIEN shares sure dont seem to be reacting much.

It's common for a large contract to contain a primary source and a secondary source. In fact, it would be incompetent if Bell Atlantic did not use a second source (as a backup) for equipment.

The question then is who is the primary supplier and who is the secondary source? I'd like to believe that Ciena has the lead position but this probably is not the case.

Dear Serry Habash:

From what I've read from many other posts (Ciena's and others) past and current the regional bells always sign with several cos.
