Builds LargeCentralized Data Warehouse On Informix Database Technology March 30, 1998 08:15 AM MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 1998-- Brazilian Bank Targets Customer Management Information for Competitive Advantage Informix(R) Corporation IFMX , the leading developer of innovative database technology, announced today that Banco America do Sul, one of the largest private commercial banks in Brazil, is implementing a large centralized data warehouse and several data marts, running on Informix database technology. "The project is expected to pay for itself in the next three years, as well as result in profits generated by information technology," said Vicent Kawakami, executive director at Banco America do Sul. "The data warehouse will help the bank get a better return on investment by product with more accurately targeted audiences and improved direct marketing efficiencies." Faced with stiff competition, Banco America do Sul began this project in early 1997 to target customer management information and decision support systems in order to speed access to strategic information and facilitate the analysis of the relationships between clients, products and services. Based on this knowledge, the bank can restructure its business to maximize productivity and reduce its operational costs. Central to the bank's customer management information project is a large centralized data warehouse running Informix Dynamic Server(TM), Informix's core database technology designed to support online transaction processing (OLTP) and data warehousing applications. The data warehouse at Banco America do Sul will store information about the financial performance of approximately 700,000 clients over a three-year period. To date, eight months of data have been loaded into the data warehouse, and one data mart is in production. The data warehouse currently holds 400 gigabytes of data and is expected to grow to one terabyte when all the transactional data is loaded. Unisys do Brazil is the system integrator on the project. Customer information will be available to every level of bank management at Banco America do Sul, from directors to bank agency managers, throughout the country. Over 500 users will have access to the warehouse information through data marts.
