Thank-you for maintaining such an insightful and mature discussion on this issue. It is greatly needed. So many web discussions are stuck in the gutter. You have the collective ability to sift through the B.S.

As one of the few of the 'general public' that is listening, I appreciate your wisdom. I first woke up to Y2K a month ago, and as a Mechanical Engineer it immediately made sense. I have spent all my spare time since covering my assets and preparing to basically 'camp' in my own house until the power comes back on. The estimates of >90% public ignorance mentioned previously sounds correct from what I hear. I don't see anyone else much preparing.

The media will finally start reporting on Y2K prime time; people will get conflicting information; they won't understand; they won't believe; they will finally conclude that action is necessary; they will start to act.

When people finally decide to take action, they will find that you cannot move investments and real estate over night. It has taken me almost a month to take some basic steps. Little things like holds on checks get in the way. One of the steps was to maximize my W-4 allowances.

Unfortunately the general public is at a great disadvantage due to the technical nature of the problem. Some will likely be caught by surprise when the failures first become noticeable. The irony of falling victim to the most trivial aspect of technology is too much.

Dow Jones 10000 bug...very interesting...
