Jack, that's so true. On occasion, some person will not think I am an Arab, and make some comment to a friend in Arabic. All I have to tell him/her is "respect yourself" which in Arabic has much more power and meaning and an apology is forthcoming. Respect is a huge aspect of the language and governs the interaction with friends or strangers.
It is an eloquent language where there is imagery and meaning. Words can burn through to the soul in any language, figuratively speaking. English can be that way too, but sometimes we take it for granted and don't notice. I have been very moved by literature and even ordinary conversations in English.
