Ed, you can bet there has been some pretty heavy lobbying going on by Nextel. Should be on cruise control for next couple of days. Expect some analyst modifications of add forecasts this week or next

Has your pal Bubba heard anything lately from Walter Piecyk?

NCAA's tonight. My forecast is Utah by 5.

Have a nice evening Ed.

Ed:

Nextel is not going to need another year to be a real company. The growth this year is going to be explosive both nationally and internationally. S&P is a highly regarded and conservative institution and the addition of nxtl to the list of 500 probably came after a lot of careful deliberation. In analyzing nextel, it is apparent that this is not simply a company with a lot of debt and no earnings. This is a company that is going to have a tremendous cash flow which will be used to grow the business.
I have been saying for the past several weeks that you cannot keep positive news secret and it has been very evident to me by looking at the data that I review that nxtl was getting set to breakout. What better prelude to the release of the first quarter adds on than the inclusion of nxtl into the S&P500. Fred Smart gave everyone on this board sufficient warning last week with his post that there was some very positive news on nxtl rumbling under the surface. I guess we know what has been happening.

I believe that companies are included in the S&P 500 or
S&P 400 based on market capitalization without regard to
earnings or debt rating. A stock like Nextel could be
added and dropped several times a year from the list. 8>)
As I engage in my geezerly S&P futures trading, I now have
the pleasure of knowing that Nextel is a part of it.
