Safe mode...

I have only a limited knowledge of these things, Hopefully we can get some help. Could you give us some more specifics?

What make and model is your computer?
What else have you installed on your computer?
What are the specifics of what you are trying to install?(make and model)
Are the sound and CD on the same card?
Did you have sound before and if so did you disable the previous sound?

Do you have a link to the web site of the sound card?

No, I don't think you can enable the sound card after you boot. The drivers are loaded in the boot sequence.

Regards

Jan,

Have you tried updating the drivers for some of your devices?

Do I know what I'm talking about ??? I think you're right about the sound card being the problem, can I enable the sound card only after I boot ??

You may use the Device Manager found in the SYSTEM control panel applet to remove the sound card (or at least Windows' recognition of it) and then let Windows reinstall a driver for it. But I don't think it will help. Your problem sounds very similar to a conflict I had that was resolved only by downloading updated drivers from the manufacturer's website. In my case, adding a sound card conflicted with the default graphics adapter (S3) driver that I had previously installed. After playing around with various combinations of resource settings, I eventually updated drivers for the graphics card and all problems ceased.
