I use Quicken software which feeds right into your 1040 on Turbotax.

List EVERY trade. You should keep ongoing table of trades - year end, no problem filing the list. Easy.

One way is to keep your records in Quicken and then if you use TurboTax the Quicken records can be imported into TurboTax with the push of a key or 2. Page after page of buy and sells. Even if the programs were used only for Sch D's it may be worth it.
