The competition sounds pretty intense, but XNX must have a leg up on it on quality, if they were 'best of show' -(I assume that Citrix and Siemens were there too, in direct competition with their product). But even with the better product, XNX needs a great marketing campaign, other wise Sony Betamax would still be all the rage. Marketing works. So, who's going to do it for them and how well are they going to do it? Siemens could be pretty tough if they get something going . . .
I've been thinking about your comment though, about going for the small, rather than the mid-size market. In many cases, these smaller companies may not be inclined to talk to Siemens, et al, because they have no previous relations with them, and being small, entrepreneurial companies themselves, capable of rapid change, they may not trust larger companies, and doubt that they would get any real priority of service and customization against Siemens larger customers. I'm not familiar with Citrix, but this may also apply there. Xinex may have chosen the lower market niche because although it may be a little hard scrabble to get and service each customer, at least they've chosen an area where they don't have to battle for every inch of turf with the big boys. I realize this rationalization stretches it a bit, but it does help a little to balance off the competition from such serious competitors IMHO. Do you think it puts at least a little weight on the other side of the balance beam?
I also have the general impression that the smaller companies are also more quick to the mark for the innovative, leading edge product, because that is often where they are also in the market place, and they appreciate others like them, and the value of being "leading edge". This might also have some effect.

Of course, XNX could just be trampled to death by an elephant of a company like Siemens, but I think and hope that they (we-since I bought in) are beneath their notice - so far.

Just thoughts, as you suggested. Maunderings really. But maybe we can all "maunder" towards something useful if we keep putting some of our half-baked ideas up here, shamelesly, and let others have a go at finishing the thought.
