We like the encapsulation that comes with COM. Component based SW with C++ works great on paper, but implementation is too dependent on programmer. Inproc Com gives nice encapsulation of reusable objects. It forces our team to keep their interfaces clean. We also have a split project. We have a toolkit whereby vars can extend our base product. Exposing our objects to a scripting environment requires COM (at least with today's technology).
