Graystone,

With regards to homosexuals, I think the best line I have ever heard with regards to discrimination is from Toni Morrison. I'll paraphrase her, "When you only know someone's race, what do you know?" The answer to this rhetorical question is, of course, "Nothing." (I'm only supplying an answer to the rhetorical question for clarity.)
Similarly, when you only know someone is an homosexual, what do you know?
To me, homosexuality is not a moral issue.
I admit I will jump into pure rationalism with both feet at a drop of a hat. I'll freely mix metaphors, too. :-)
I really wouldn't call myself an atheist, since I won't defend an atheistic position; i.e., there is no God. And, I wouldn't call myself an agnostic, since I won't defend an agnostic position; i.e., one cannot know if there is a God. What do you call someone who is searching to understand the "unavoidable problems of reason" - God, freedom, and immortality?
