Sun's Starfire Leads Again, Delivers Record Performance and Scalability for Baan Business
Applications; Sun Benchmark Supports Largest Number of Baan Users On Any Platform

BusinessWire, Tuesday, March 31, 1998 at 08:16

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31, 1998--Sun
Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW) today announced that its Sun(TM)
Enterprise(TM) 10000 (also known as Starfire(TM)) server has captured
the performance lead for The Baan Company's (NASDAQ:BAANF)(ASE:BAAN)
suite of enterprise business applications.
A single 40 CPU Starfire system supported 3,232 Baan Reference
Users (BRUs) and was certified by Baan at Sun's Enterprise Technology
Center in Palo Alto, Calif. Additionally, a 36 CPU Starfire server
configured for a client/server environment posted another record by
supporting 4,590 BRUs -- the most BRUs supported by any hardware
platform.
These results demonstrate that Baan running on Sun's Starfire
server gives customers a more efficient means of managing their
business-critical applications, which is important to large enterprise
customers worldwide.
This benchmark, tested in both a host mode and client-server
configuration, supports up to three times more users than Sun's
closest competitor.
