BCDMA

If i am not mistaken, BCDMA is currently only used for Wireless
local loop. I don't think it is used for fully mobile applications!

Marden, I follow Interdigital quite close and I never heard it rumored that IDC was supplying ERICY. ERICY has W-CDMA and IDC has B-CDMAtm. They are both wideband versions of cdma. IDC calls theirs broadband which is trademarked (that's why the little tm after B-CDMA ) and ERICY calls theirs wideband. The systems seem like twins according to what both companies plan to offer at start up. The only difference I have seen is ERICY's will operate in the 5mhz spectrum and IDC's in the 5mhz to 15mhz. IDC has now added ALCATEL to their consortium of Siemens and Samsung and Texas Instruments will make their ASIC. At the Cebit show this month the consortium announced field testing will take place in North America, Asia and Africa and sales would commence later this year. It was also announced that Alcatel and Philips have withdrawn their appeal in Germany which is almost 4 years old to have IDC's TDMA patent invalidated. In my opinion ERICY is far behind the IDC consortiums efforts in developing a wide cdma version because they want to offer full mobility right away. B-CDMA will be offered at first as fixed wireless local loop and through expensive RD full mobility will be reached. ERICY and IDC have a TDMA patent suit pending in the USA which also adds to the doubt that IDC is supplying ERICY with anything. I believe ERICY desperately wants to stop the efforts of cdmaone by QCOM and may want to end litigations with IDC and would benefit by joining the consortium. Siemens has said the consortium is three years ahead in the broadband cdma effort so anything is possible. Hope this helped.
